Consignment tracking
With Goods that the consignor sends remains their responsibility and all costs, losses and damages etc are theirs and theirs alone. As a result the consignor is going to want to know as much information as possible regarding shipment i.e. Who is responsible for the loss of damage for example when it occurred and when it occurred to then stop it happening again. Tracking in this sense is used to register responsibility rather than having to guess what happened or who is responsible.
When the shipment is moved it needs recording and when you’re talking about lost items over a period of time it near on impossible to remember or record them without some help electronically. The way items are tracked are through barcodes and scanners which is ok until they are in transit and many locations are visited which is why our system that uses mobile scanning and tracking comes into its own as it records all the data and brings it together to view easily.
The consignee then has his/her responsibilities to, the tracking or scanning equipment which is registered to them and the items that are scanned into their charge by that device until the items change hands through scanning items off. Responsibility then moved to the next consignee in the chain of moving and handling.
Scanning to provide this information for the tracking purposes is very quick so this doesn’t make much of an impact in time, no more than is needed for health and safety aspects of jobs. Once the initial moans and groans disappear, staff soon realise the benefits that they cannot be blamed for other peoples actions.
